Batteries

A battery is a device made up of one or more electrochemical cells. Phones, Flashlights, Electric cars and many more use batteries. The battery that we were working on in science was a wet cell battery, this battery is used to work giant vehicles just like cars and aeroplanes. Dry cell batteries are used to work lots of things.

Aboriginal Boomerang

Aboriginal Boomerang Art
This Term we were painting and making boomerangs. We had to learn many things about what the boomerangs mean and what they should look like. We knew that they are known to be made from Australians, but we were looking more ahead and thinking about what we learnt last Term which was about the Aboriginal people.

The meaning for the dots on this boomerang was to disguise the sacred meanings behind the stories of the Aboriginal Australian art. Aboriginal people would smooth over the soil to create sacred designs that belong to the Indigenous Australian Ceremony.

The thing that was fun about painting was the art of what it will turn out like. It is nice to have a meaning to what the art tells us about, and thinking about Aboriginal arts was beautiful.

The Hunger Games Workshop 4

How is colour used to enhance the story?
This scene shows Katniss running, she is one of the selected tributes from District 12 in The Hunger Games. District 12 is one poor District compared to the others which have more rich, luxury items. The colours that are used for this scene are Grey, Bad looking white and dark green which show Sad emotions. The director Gary Ross has used these colours to show what it looks like when all districts are split, and to make them feel like they have a less chance of winning The Hunger Games.

This was one setting in the movie which has all the people that control what is happening in the Arena. This looks way different from what has been shown in District 12, This has bright colours, Blue and White which really shows Happiness and a more clean type of look. Gary Ross has used these colours to show the audience how rich Snow the Capitol is and how important he is to everyone.

The colours are used a lot in this scene, there are bright colourful colours used, these people are used mostly for sponsors that all the tributes may need. The colours show how rich they look right now. Gary Ross used this for the comparison against Districts 12, and it also shows how happy everyone is looking right now.

Colour is used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor. This is demonstrated in the two scenes - District 12 at the start of the film and The Capitol as Katniss and Peeta arrive on the train. In District 12 a natural, dull and dark palette of greens and browns is used to create a wild atmosphere. In the Capitol a metallic, industrial colour palette of whites, silvers and greys is used to create a feeling of an advanced society. The purpose of this is to show the rich vs poor in the two societies. The Capitol has more bright colours and advanced buildings and technologies, whereas District 12 has dull colours to show their run down buildings and over worn clothing. Combined with the use of costumes we're able to see the divide between the wealthy in the Capitol and the poor of District 12. This reminds the audience of the riot scene later in the film when the poor citizens of District 11 rebel against the rule of the Capitol.

This music was very slow and has less crazy sound to it. The emotion this song is trying to make you feel relax and maybe gives you memories from the past and from the movie. Instruments used are more likely Guitar, and piano.

The music has very sad emotions of when rue dies. It is nice and slow and can relax you when you are going through bad times and good times.

This music kind of builds up as you listen to it more because it shows strong emotions. The instruments that were used were piano, and guitar and different instruments.

"The Reaping"

This music was used at the very first start of the movie. They used it to make the audience feel what it going to happen in the movie. This is a slow music, because it can meditate you.

The Hunger Games Workshop 3

How are costumes used to enhance the story?

What types of costumes are used in this location?

The costumes in District 12 which look very old, they are very poor and they cannot afford any clean good clothing.
In the Arena where they fight to death, they are all wearing the same outfit which isn't really as bad as what district 12 is wearing right now.
The audience who are happily watching, are wearing rich, clean and colourful different fabric type of costumes.

How do the different costumes change the feel of the story?
The different costume change, does change the story a little bit to show the people who are rich compared to the poor. From District 1 to 12, District 1 lives a way better life than District 12, because the story is showing how everyone is living.

Why has the director used these costumes?
They used these rich and weird looking outfits, instead of really clean normal looking outfit, because the director wants to show us more colourful and funky looking outfits to see the big difference between each districts from poor to rich.

Paragraph
Costumes are used effectively to show the imbalance between rich and poor, the Capitol and District 12, in Panam. For instance, this is seen in the reaping scene where the figure of Effie Trinket is juxtaposed to those of District 12 in this scene the children of District 12 are wearing dull faded simple clothes whilst Effie wears a vibrant pink outfit with an extravagant wig and over the top make-up. This makes us understand how unwealthy the people of District 12 are compared to people in the Capitol. The purpose of this is to show that life in all the Districts is not as hard as it is in District 12. Coinciding with this is the use of setting. In District 12 everything is rundown and old but with the Capitol it is new, clean and colourful. The costumes in the reaping scene can be juxtaposed to those worn by citizens of the Capitol seen by Peeta and Katniss on the train.

How does Music enhance the story?

Choose a moment from the film where the music, or a particular song, was important.

What was happening in that scene?
In this scene, the timer was going down by 1 minute. As soon as the timer reached to 0 all the tributes begin to run all in at once in the cornucopia and collect everything they need. Music was building up as they kill each other creating a big bloodbath.

How would you describe the mood of the music?
I would describe it as a very dramatic sound, with a lot of power in it and scary tones to create a scary setting to what is going on.

How important was the music in creating the atmosphere in that scene?
It really did not sound good, which actually was good for the Cornucopia Bloodbath scene. It draws people's attention to what it is going on, it scares them but it still gets their eye because they want to see what is happening.

The Hunger Games

Over the shoulder - Connects the viewer to the conversation of the character.

Extreme long shot - Shows us the crowd, and to show the full area or audience.

High angle - See more people below one scene as vulnerable, shows how powerful President Snow is.

Paragraph example 1
Camera shot and angles are well used in the film 'The Hunger Games'. When the tributes came through and the audience were first meeting them, Over the shoulder by President Snow was shown to the film. This makes the audience feel like they are connected to the conversation. The director did this to make the movie for of what the movie is trying to show, which literally shows they are gonna die, they would use Pan shot, Shaky camera etc. Coinciding with this, the use of settings shows a powerful special place for Snow and the tributes below with the audience. This can be juxtaposed to the scene later in the film where Katniss and Peeta reclaim power by threatening to eat the poisonous berries in the arena.

Dutch tilt - Dutch tilt shows things that are out of the normal - Katniss is out of place, she volunteered as tribute to save her little sister Prim. Katniss also said she will die for Prim.

Low angle - Low angle can show less power to the people below who are look up to Katniss and the character Katniss we are looking at gives her more power.

Mid shot - Mid shot can show more of the character and to really see them being used in the film.

Paragraph 2:
In 'The Hunger Games' Camera shots and Angles were used effectively in this film. For example when the director, Gary Ross used a high angle and over the shoulder when President Snow introduced all the tributes. This makes us understand that Snow has the power over all the tributes across all districts and over all the people. The director did this to give evidence of how he rules the world in his own favour. Coinciding with the shot was powerful, through the voice of Snow, it made his words stand out, giving the movie more knowledge to the audience about what might happen next. This reminds me of the movie 'Avengers Eng-game' When Thanos, the Villain, was having the power in his hands trying to destroy The Avengers with his gauntlet with 5 gems, and wanting to take over the world.
