Historians argue that understanding the causes of
significant events is much more important than just
remembering dates, facts and figures about things in
the past. Signed in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi is an
agreement between Māori—tangata whenua of
Aotearoa/New Zealand—and the British.
Causes:
1. Lawless
2. Rights
3. Muskets
4. Dec of I
There were 4 main causes that require an agreement to be between the Maori and Pakeha. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 because the Maori and Pakeha had been through different interconnected situations.
The Lawless Behaviour was located in Russell, because there were tough situations between each group. If the treaty isn't signed then both parties would not stop fighting each other until they get what they want. The argument in Russell needed to be stopped even if in a different location, fighting and drinking was used a lot by both parties, and it created a huge mess in the land of Russell. To stop the situations from both sides building up, both would need to sign the treaty for things to get better and so if both parties were to agree everything they want would be received
